How to deal with negativity
Is there a correlation between your thoughts, feelings and events in your life? Can you change your life, by changing the way you think and feel? Author & Certified Law of attraction Coach Laila Pesonen and artist Lina Egle Urbonaite says "Yes it is"and "Yes, you can".
Most people at one time or another express negativity about situations in their lives. So many of us are trained to notice what is broken or lacking, rather than what is going well. We think, "I'm stupid", "I will fail, like many times before, why should it be different this time "... and so on .These negative thoughts can be destructive or even harmful. For example, thoughts of our own inadequacy can be extremely detrimental to our lives.
Laila says: «Your thoughts and feelings create your reality, and as you repeat these negative statements to yourself, you begin to create them as true. You become powerless, lose ambition, become hopeless and bring more of what you didn’t want to yourself. These negative thoughts and emotions can drain your energy.
If you want to eliminate or change something in your life, you need to retrain your thinking and speaking habits. Start to notice your negative self-talk. Pay attention to the words you repeat in your mind. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you catch yourself thinking negatively. Just observe. Accept that you have these thoughts. Ask yourself – am I addicted to them? You may even feel that you cannot separate yourself from your negative thoughts.
When you find yourself thinking negatively, take a deep breath and gently say to yourself “STOP!”. Observe and pay attention to how the negative thoughts make you feel. Then decide to think about something more positive. For example, recall a pleasant memory from your past, something that made you feel good. Alternatively, express gratitude for something in your life. There are many things to be grateful for: family, friends, chocolate, the ability to read, our health. When we practice giving thanks for all we have, instead of complaining about what we lack, we give ourselves the chance to see all of life as an opportunity and a blessing.
To where you direct and focus your attention, your creative energy goes and you will attract more of the same into your life.
According Laila, negative emotions can be a force for good. They let you know that you need to make adjustments in your life. However, you don’t have to settle for a mind full of negative thoughts. You can overcome reactive thinking and learn how to respond calmly in negative situations. Each one of us can learn a new way to look at things and form new habits that benefit our lives.
Lina says: It’s possible to switch our thoughts from negative to positive, like a light switch. Imagine a dark room. It’s so dark you can’t even see your hand in front of your face. Next, imagine switching the lights on. Our thoughts are the same way. We can switch our thoughts from negative to positive. Practice “switching” when you feel a negative thought coming. It takes some practice, but it will get easier when you get the hang of it. Tough times will occur, but it is your choice how you will view them.
It’s important to remember that all that happens on our journey helps us to grow, even the things that makes us upset. When you learn to relax and calm your mind you will be able to see situations more objectively and find solutions much easier. When you learn from your past, you no longer attract what you don’t want into your life. Rather, choosing a better way to react to negative situations in our lives helps us move beyond the past.
Inspired by the power of positive affirmations, Lina has produced a makeup-bag with affirmations, which can work as a “switcher”, turning negative thoughts into positive ones.
An affirmation is a positive statement about a desired situation. It’s a statement that helps reprogram old thoughts to create new patterns. Affirmations can be a powerful tool to improve your life and help you focus your awareness to create what you want.
Lina has this to say about her bags:
“Art is a tool for me to spread my ideas and to help people enjoy their lives more. It is all about where we put our attention. If we think about all the negative things, we start attracting them into our lives. If we make conscious choices to attract positive experience in our lives instead, then miracles start happening. This is why I created make-up bags with positive affirmations. These make-up bags serve as a reminder to ‘switch’ your negative thoughts to positive ones.”
Every time she corrects her makeup, she sees the affirmation and it reminds her straight away to check in with the thoughts and feelings running through her mind. Are they negative? If so, she’d take steps to change them. These make-up bags also remind her that life is beautiful and that she is a powerful creator of her own reality, her life.
Lina tells: "During my artworks photo shoot, I conducted a small experiment: I asked a young woman to remember a situation that made her sad. Then I asked her to read the affirmation on the make-up bag and start remembering beautiful events from her life, to recount her dreams, and to imagine that life is full of wonders. I filmed her during this guided visualization. Her mood changed dramatically from sad to happy! I asked her only to imagine with her mind. This powerful experiment shows how our thoughts affect our emotional state. Our thoughts are very powerful. Use them wisely. What we think, we create. Most of us do not realize that we are very powerful creators indeed!
Women are very emotional beings, and we think and wonder a lot. A happy woman is a blessing to everyone around her. When she is happy, she will fill everyone's life with positive energy.
Start monitoring your thoughts and use positive affirmations to transform your life.
